Lankitha

Lankitha

I attempted to recreate the Rembrandt lighting effect with this studio portrait of Lankitha – there is a clear triangle of shadow on her right cheek. This photo required very little editing and processing.

For the Studio Portraits section of the Photography module. This photo features Kira facing away from a single softbox light, in front of an illuminated white background. The photo was slightly over-exposed so this was corrected in Photoshop.

Hands Of Time

HandsOfTime

This composite image was created in Adobe Photoshop, based on an image of a large clock. Seperately, I took a photo of a friend’s pointing hand, and using the image-editing software, replaced the hands of the clock with the actual human hands, giving a literal representation the the phrase ‘the hands of time’.

Night

nightThis photo is a sequel to Blur, however this time I experimented with the long shutter speed at night. Again, an iconic London bus is featured, but this time it is less recognisable and not immediately obvious. This photo has a 5-second exposure, and a tripod was used to ensure a steady shot.

Blur

BlurHeaderExperimenting with shutter speed can produce interesting results, such as this 1.6 second photo of a red London bus on a busy road. Using a tripod to keep the camera steady, the blur of the bus is still highly recognisable. I had to use a low ISO and small aperture to compensate for the bright daylight. I finished off some minor editing in Photoshop. Night is a sequel to this photo.

Plasma

This image is a close-up photo of a plasma lamp. The fast-moving strands and contrast between the dark background and the bright foreground presented a challenge to set up the camera correctly. However, I think the image is captured well, and the only editing that I had to do was increase the saturation and RGB colour levels using Photoshop. This image is part of the Selected Exposure group for the EE1803 Digital Media Portfolio task.

Three

This photo is for the Selected Exposure category. I removed the front and rear lights from my bike, and with a five-second exposure, a friend waved them around in front of the camera. The effect was impressive, and I have edited the white light to appear green in Photoshop. Because of the long exposure, I had to use a tripod.

Trees

Trees

By increasing the contrast and reducing the saturation, the silhouette of the tree against the white sky can be made into a truly black-and-white image, which at first glance could be a number of things, such as an abstract paint print, or an aerial view of a river delta.

Seb

Seb

For the Digital Portfolio, one of the photography themes that I have picked was studio portraits. This photo shows Sebastien posing in the studio. Using a single light and a low camera angle, it gives the impression of scale and intimidation. I removed the background lights and ceiling using Adobe Photoshop.
